Create a Kaizen and add sections

Create a Kaizen project with its required fields, add sections such as 5W1H, Team, Result and Action Plan, and simplify the form.

Written by Angad Singh

A Kaizen is an improvement project in LeanSuite. This article shows how to create one, which fields are required, how to add sections such as 5W1H, Team, Results and Action Plan, and how admins can simplify the form.

Create the project

  1. Go to Kaizen and click Create new.

  2. Fill in the required fields: Title, Project Lead, Project Type and Methodology.

  3. Add optional details such as department, line, workstation or sponsor.

  4. Click Create.

The project page opens, with the sections for its first phase ready to fill in.

Note: you can also start a Kaizen from a Suggestion, a Tag, an EWO, an audit finding, a Loss Tree, or an AI Time Study finding.

Important: if you see a "no workflow created" error, an admin needs to finish setting up that project type. See Set up Kaizen project types, methodologies and templates.

Add sections

Use the Add Section bar above the phase's sections. Click a quick option such as Target, Action Plan, Result, MTTR or Adoption, or click & More to choose another section.

Sections you can add include:

  • Problem Description, 5W1H, 5 Whys, 4M: define the problem and find the root cause.

  • Team: the project lead and sponsor are added automatically. Add more members.

  • Target and KPIs: what you're aiming to improve.

  • Tools/Skills: the lean tools and skills used. These link to the Skills Matrix.

  • Action Plan: actions with owners and due dates.

  • Result: benefits and costs, including hard vs soft savings.

Added sections appear as a list below the bar:

  • Drag the handle on the left to reorder them.

  • Click the arrow to expand one.

  • Click the X to remove one.

Simplify the form

Who can do this: admins.

On the create form, click Show fields to hide fields your users don't need, or make fields optional. Changes apply to everyone and can be undone.

Move through phases

Use Advance To to move the project to its next status. What's allowed depends on your workflow. Click the workflow icon to see the next steps.
