The Expansion section is used to expand a facility's resources.
These resources are the assets in a facility. You may need to change them or add new ones because of circumstances, production requirements, failure scenarios or other reasons.
The section lets you add an expansion item with details, an assignee, a start date and a due date.
Use the Expansion section
1. Add the Expansion section from the available list to the required phase. See Add or remove sections from Kaizen phases.
Note: a newly added section appears below the last section in the phase.
2. Expand the section by clicking anywhere in the section field, or on the arrow on the right side. You can also use the arrow to collapse the section.
When the section is added for the first time, it has no expansion items.
3. Click Add New. The button is replaced by fields for the expansion item.
Note: the expansion fields are cascading. The options in each field depend on what you selected in the previous field.
Field | Type |
Department | Drop-down menu |
Line | Drop-down menu |
Workstation | Drop-down menu |
Asset | Drop-down menu |
Project Lead | Search drop-down menu |
Actual Start Date | Date field |
Due Date | Date field |
An expansion usually adds a machine or smaller asset, so the fields follow the hierarchical structure of the facility. You record the asset on a workstation, in a line, inside a department. This gives an exact location and a record of the expansion.
You also assign a project lead and set the actual start date and the due date for the expansion project.
4. Fill in the fields as required.
5. Click Save.
A new expansion card is created, and the Add New button appears again so you can add more items.
Tip: in the Workstation and Asset fields you can select more than one item at a time.
Edit or delete an expansion item (optional)
1. Use the options in the top-right corner of the expansion card to edit or delete it.
You can edit the assignee, the dates and the plan details of the item.
2. Click the cross icon in the top-right corner when you finish.
Good to know
Expansions are included in the Kaizen export columns.
