Create a loss type in Kaizen Loss Management by filling in its category, name, threshold and impact fields.

Written by Angad Singh

Loss types describe the losses your Kaizens address. You create them in Loss Management, and you can then attach default tools to them. This article shows you how to add a loss type.

Who can do this: admins with permission to manage Kaizen settings.

Open the Add Loss Type window

1. Go to Loss Management in the Kaizen module. For help, see Navigate the Kaizen parent menu.

2. On the Loss Management dashboard, click the Add Loss button at the top right.

The Add Loss Type window opens with six fields that describe the new loss type.

Fill in the loss type details

3. In Loss Category, choose the category the new loss type belongs to. Categories help you organize the loss types that can be added to a Kaizen.

Note: you can choose an existing category or create a new one. See Add a loss category in Kaizen.

4. In Loss Type, enter the name of the new loss type.

5. In Loss Type Category, choose one of three options: Causal, Resultant or Both.

Note: the Loss Type Category is not the same as the Loss Category. The Loss Category groups loss types by broad internal factors. The Loss Type Category classifies a loss by how it arises: Causal or Resultant.

6. In Threshold Type, choose one of two options: Amount or Time.

7. In Process Impact, choose one of four options: Upstream, Downstream, None or Both.

8. In Asset Impact Level, choose one of two options: Asset or Workstation.

9. Click Submit.
