Tools (also called skills) are the improvement methods your facility uses to tackle losses. You create them in Tool Management, then attach them to loss types and track how often they are used in Kaizens. This article shows you how to add a new tool.

Who can do this: admins with permission to manage Kaizen settings.

Open the Add Tool window

1. Go to the Tool Management dashboard in Kaizen Settings. For help, see About tool management in Kaizen.

2. Click the Add Tools button at the top right.

The Add Tool window opens with six fields that describe the new tool.

Fill in the tool details

3. In Tool Name, enter the name of the tool.

4. In Description, enter a description of the tool. This helps other users understand the tool before they add it to a loss type.

5. In Pillar, select the pillar the tool belongs to from the drop-down menu.

Note: the pillar options depend on the pillars set up for your facility during the initial setup.

6. In Type, choose one of four options: Managerial, Safety, Technical or WCM.

7. In Level, choose one of three options: Preventative, Proactive or Reactive.

8. In Phase, choose one of three options: Basic, Intermediate or Advanced.

9. Click Submit.
