About the 5G section
The 5G principle in lean manufacturing is a holistic approach to operational excellence. It emphasizes understanding, respect and continuous improvement.
By focusing on the 5Gs, Gemba, Gembutsu, Genjitsu, Genri and Gensoku, an organization can identify opportunities for improvement, drive efficiency and build a culture of continuous learning and growth.
5G | Description | Purpose |
Gemba | Go to the actual place where work is done to observe operations firsthand and identify inefficiencies. | Gain insights into the actual work environment and identify opportunities for improvement. |
Gembutsu | Go to the source to see and understand the actual products, components or materials used in the production process. | Identify the root causes of problems and implement effective solutions to improve quality and efficiency. |
Genjitsu | Base all decisions and actions on real data, facts and observations rather than assumptions. | Understand the current state of operations and make informed decisions to drive improvement. |
Genri | Understand and apply fundamental lean principles such as respect for people, continuous improvement and waste reduction. | Create a foundation for operational excellence and continuous improvement. |

Step 1
Add the 5G section from the available list to the required phase. To learn how, see How to add or remove sections from phases in Kaizen module.
Step 2
Expand the section by clicking anywhere in the section field, or on the arrow on the right side. You can also use the arrow to collapse the section.
Step 3
Fill in all five fields.
Tip: Use the short description shown under each field title as a guide.
Click Save when you finish.
Collapse the section.
