The Skill Matrix is built from a few connected pieces: teams, skills, procedures, courses and roles. This article explains what each one is, how they fit together, and the order to set them up in.
The building blocks
Item | What it is | Example |
Team (job profile) | A group of people doing the same job or working in the same area | Dry Press Operators |
Skill | Something a person can do, rated by level | Start up and shut down the press; Forklift |
Procedure | An SOP or document people must read and sign off | Press changeover SOP |
Course | LMS training that can raise a skill level | Forklift safety |
Role | What someone is allowed to do in LeanSuite | Kaizen Approver |
Note: Qualifications such as forklift or labeler are skills, not roles.
Setting up
Build your master skill list in Tool Management. You can bulk-add skills, and your LeanSuite team can import a spreadsheet for you.
In Skill Matrix → Teams, create a team for each job profile and add its members.
Add the required skills and levels for the team.
Add the required procedures, trainings and courses.
For step-by-step instructions, see Create a team and set required skills.
How people qualify
When a person signs off a required procedure or passes a linked course, their skill level updates.
The Job Cover Matrix then shows who is qualified for each job and where you have gaps.
Kaizen and gap planning
The same skill list is used in Kaizen's Tools/Skills section. Adding a trainee to a project helps them build a skill, which is part of gap planning.
