Read the radar chart and plan skill gaps

Understand required, original and current levels on the radar chart, look back in time, and close gaps with training and projects.

Written by Angad Singh

The radar chart in the Skills Matrix shows at a glance how a team or person's skills compare with what the job needs. This article explains how to read it and how to plan to close skill gaps.

What the radar chart shows

Each point on the chart is a skill. For a team or a person, the chart compares:

  • Required level: what the job needs.

  • Original level: where the person or team started the year.

  • Current level: where they are now.

The gap between current and required is what still needs work. The difference between original and current shows progress this year.

Your own chart is under User Profile → My Radar Chart, next to the Gap, Gap closure YTD and Gap closure Total percentages.

Look back in time

Choose an as of date to see the team as it was on that date. You can also export the team data for that date.

How levels go up

Levels rise when people meet the criteria set for each skill, for example passing a linked course, applying the skill on projects, or completing a practical assessment.

Editing the original level

You can adjust a person's original (start-of-year) level from the radar chart if it was set incorrectly.

Who can do this: Admins.

Planning to close gaps

  • Gap planning shows which people need which skills, and suggests Kaizen projects and courses to close the gaps.

  • Assign training straight from the gap view.

  • In Kaizen, the team builder suggests people based on their skills and workload.

Use the Gap Planning page

  1. Open Gap Planning from the Skill Matrix menu. The page shows GAP (%), GAP Closure YTD (%) and GAP Closure Total (%) at the top, and tabs for each level step (1-2 level, 2-3 level, 3-4 level, 4-5 level).

  2. Choose Individual and a person (or another option) from the two drop-downs.

  3. Expand a tool row to see the move from one level to the next, for example level 1 → level 2.
